If you are new to caravanning, there are many options to choose from when looking for your perfect site. There's everything from a simple field in the middle of nowhere, to giant complex everything from leisure facilities to Wi-Fi internet access.
Some sites offer both, but something to consider depending on the time of year or weather conditions.
Modern caravans can happily run on both gas and 12volt electricity, but if you're considering staying at one site for a long period, or have a lot of electrical gadgets, a site with electric hook up (normally 10-16amps) is a must.
Today, more and more sites offer "serviced pitches", which offer drainage for your grey waste (sink and shower water), and normally a water tap, on every pitch. The benefit of course is not having to worry about the trips to the disposal points and water taps. However this normally does come at a premium price.
Some sites are available to adults only, and others welcome children with open arms. The decision is down to preference, but something to consider when deciding where to go.

Gone are the days of spending hours finding the perfect position for your portable aerial. Many sites today offer an aerial point on every pitch, and if you can't bear to be away from your laptop, a growing number of sites are now offering Wi-Fi connection. However, don't forget your aerial extension cable.
Caravan sites can be found in a variety of places. If you're looking to walk everywhere once you've set up and not rely on the car, then make sure you check for the nearest town.
